Private Commissions

An artist is going to create , it's just that simple . The lucky ones are those that can find a way to integrate their need to express themselves with their need to make a living . The really lucky ones are able to find a common purpose between their artwork and their career , enabling both to grow . It's not always simple to do that for all manner of reasons . The rare and treasured relationship is patronage , where financial support is given in order for the artist to enjoy the freedom to pursue that passion to create .

For the artist , patronage is often a life saver , providing income between assignments and a successful patronage is one where both the needs of customer and artist sync up . It's important to keep in mind if you are seeking a private commission from an artist to consider both  what it is you wish from the transaction as well as what the artist needs . Does their work typically reflect what it is you want ? No matter how much you might admire an artist's style approaching them for a piece that is contrary to what they do will not result in a successful end , like asking a cheesecake pin up artist to execute a vulgar fetish piece . Not to say it can't be achieved , just be prepared to pay out the nose in order to get what you want . On that same thought , an artist might be amiable to executing a commission at a lower rate if the subject has a particular appeal .

From my own point of view , if you'd like to contact me about a private commission it's as simple as sending me an email ( cbgorby@earthlink.net ) and making an inquiry . I specialize in pretty girls but won't do subjects that might be construed as pornographic . I'll do animals , but not pets - unless they happen to be the cheetahs of an Egyptian Queen . I will do superheroes , but only if they happen to be characters I like . Your best bet for success is commissioning me to do something I'd be doing anyway - just toss me money and say " I want a Gorby original ! " We'll then work together to come up with something you'll like .
