You have probably heard the " beat a dead horse " catch phrase - " $#!T Happens " . . . well , sometimes amazing things happen too . The " behind the scenes " life of WEBB is as rich as the story itself - filled with lost and surrendered dreams , sacrifice for the sake of those we care for and the tragic cost of letting others determine our fate instead of accepting the challenge and responsibility ourselves .
I happened to be working for various companies at this time , AC Comics regularly , DC Comics occasionally and BIG Entertainment as a new venture with hope for future work . . . but if you've maybe seen else where in my blog - you NEVER put your eggs in ONE basket as a Freelance Artist .
Webb was a project I saw from a " big picture " context , it had that sort of depth . It was the sort of tale that just encompassed " everything I have done has been a preliminary to this work " . . . and perhaps THAT is why it became a " cursed " project . The sort of project that everything seems to be focused to PREVENT from seeing the light of day . A project to determine your resolve to make a statement that might have a positive influence on people .
I was successful in achieving the completion of the first book in the series when " reality " stepped in to divert me from my course , it would be almost 20 years before reality stepped back in that might offer me the opportunity to complete it .
It was all serendipity , I had been beaten down , given hope to a new beginning - glimpsed visions that as long as you believe in yourself nothing can stop you - learned that some things are worth melting for .
This has become my fight - to see this project to completion - and maybe beyond the initial story , because we are just scratching the tip of the iceberg at this beginning point . I am both amazed as well as troubled that a story written 20 years ago - still rings with truths about our lives that are just as real today .
